Connect with Baby through JOYful SOUND… Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaahhh!

What if you played this soundtrack every day as you cuddled with the baby feeling peaceful and joyful? Do you think the baby would remember these sounds, and feelings of joy if you played the same soundtrack during your labor and delivery?
Happy Holidays Beautiful Mamas!
We are preparing for our drive to Las Vegas on Christmas Day to spend time with my son’s grandparents – a tradition we’ve held for the past 9 years! So my son is in charge of the HOLIDAY soundtrack. Nothing gets you HOLIDAY JOLLY like fun and upbeat Christmas Carols! He’s been enthusiastically loading up his iPod for the past few days. I had to remind him that the car ride is only 5 hours haha! Like most children, my son LOVES the LIGHTS, CHRISTMAS TREE and HOLIDAY MUSIC that CELEBRATE this time of year. Can you imagine Christmas being the same without the HOLIDAY MUSIC? The ritual story-telling, gift wrapping and tree adorning would feel COLD and STERILE – with no melodies to connect the dots of Christmas past, present and future… The music provides love, comfort, nostalgia and downright MAGIC to this special time of year. Try it for yourself, JUST stick in a Christmas CD or iPod selection and notice the warm cozy feelings it generates. 🙂
It turns out we also have a powerful connection to our babies through SOUND! A big part of our pregnancy yoga class is the relaxing, high vibration music that plays in the background AND the simple mantras and affirmations we chant for PEACE of MIND. It doesn’t surprise me at all that the MOST FREQUENTLY asked QUESTION from moms, during my 9 years of teaching PREGNANCY YOGA is: “What music CD do you recommend for me to play at home to relax me and the baby? I am often stressed at work, and this music relaxes me. It reminds me of the calm space I feel during my yoga practice. I would also like to play this music during my BIRTH.”
What if you created your own HAPPY MAMA – HAPPY BABY soundtrack? A few small playlists filled with all of the songs that make you feel Happy, Calm and Loved. This soundtrack could include music of all genres, that deeply move and inspire you in some way. What if you played this soundtrack every day as you cuddled with the baby feeling peaceful and joyful? Do you think the baby would remember these sounds, and feelings of joy if you played the same soundtrack during your labor and delivery? YES YES YES!!!
It is recommended that fathers talk to the baby daily, because the baby will hear dad’s voice and immediately feel safe during labor and delivery, because there is a solid connection already established between the two. You know, I had a Birth Soundtrack all picked out for my labor and delivery of my son – then we forgot the CD PLAYER. (No iPods back then haha!)
So, I switched to plan B. How to give my son a familiar comforting sound? Well, we also drummed, played singing bowls and chanted almost every day in our home. So when my son’s father played the singing bowl, while I went into deep meditation, WE ALL RELAXED… and my son felt safe to come on down into the birth canal! This sound connected us ALL, because it was a part of our special HAPPY MAMA – HAPPY BABY routine. This sound, combined with deep meditative breath and sacral massage helped me to dilate from 3 cms to 9 cms in just 45 minutes! No drugs. No crazy interventions. Just a few joyful noises, and we all TUNED in. You can do it too!!!
